Romantic Houston Hotels for Your Texas Honeymoon or Getaway

The great city of Houston is positioned well for all kinds of romantic vacations and honeymoons in Southern Texas. Located between the fun of the Gulf Coast and scenic Texas Hill Country, it's the logical choice for a few overnights. Now, where to stay?

One of the Most Romantic Hotels in Downtown Houston, TX - The Magnolia

Here's our review of four romantic Houston hotels that we think you'll love. Three are in the downtown area, and one is a cheaper option south of the city, but great for splitting your time between Houston's attractions and the beaches of Galveston.

Since these properties are very popular for romance-themed visits to Houston, we recommend booking well in advance... 

Hotel ZaZa

Hotel ZaZa, A Houston Boutique Hotel Ideal for Honeymoons Close to the City's Museum District

Hotel ZaZa Houston - this unusual and unforgettable boutique hotel is also very conveniently located. It’s close to the Museum District of Houston (18 museums within a 1.5 mile radius), Hermann Park and Houston Zoo. 

There are 315 guest rooms, including gems like the Pool Bungalows, as well as “Concept Suites” which are large, themed rooms (Geisha House and An Affair to Remember, to name just two). Then there's the lavish “Magnificent Seven Suites”, such as the 2160 square foot “Rock Star Suite” or “For Your Eyes Only”. These truly have to be seen to be believed!

Many of the suites include full kitchens and some even have their own washers and dryers. You're going to love discovering that the tubs all come equipped with Rain Forest Showers, and your own in-suite espresso machine is a nice touch as well. 

Additionally, the Zaspa full service spa and salon will help you look and feel your very best after a good workout in the extensive fitness center. From the luxury pool and lounge area, take in the gorgeous views of the Houston city skyline. Hotel ICON Houston - considered a boutique hotel, but it’s also a member of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. The Neo-Classical building, originally constructed in 1911 as the National Bank Building, has been renovated and includes 135 standard and deluxe rooms, as well as 18 private suites with lavish baths. There is also a luxurious on-site spa and a restaurant called the Line and Lariat.  

Queen rooms and Junior suites have glass enclosed, walk-in rain showers, and many rooms have been outfitted with clawfoot, garden or jetted tub.  Ever hear of a “bath expert”? The Hotel ICON's got one, and he or she would be happy to provide the “Bath Butler Service” by drawing you a bubble bath and getting things set up!

Keep active by walking to the many attractions that are close by, including the theatre and sports districts, or workout in the fitness center. If pampering and indulgence are more your style, valet your car or arrange for use of the hotel's 11-passenger Mercedes Sprinter! 

Tip:  Ask about their “Kiss and Tell” Houston hotel romance package.  It includes one dozen long-stemmed roses, chilled champagne, strawberries and cream. You also get breakfast in bed, and a 1 PM late checkout next day.

Staybridge Suites - Houston NASA/Clear Lake

Staybridge Suites Houston NASA/Clear Lake, an Affordable Romantic Houston Area Hotel

Staybridge Suites Houston NASA/Clear Lake - is a comfortable, clean and friendly place to stay. It located nicely between downtown Houston and Galveston Beach, so you can spend a day or two in each direction. It’s also only five minutes from NASA Space Center, with many restaurants and shopping areas nearby. (Distance to Downtown Houston is 23 miles, to Galveston is 30 miles)  

If your getaway needs to be inexpensive, here’s a romantic and cheap Houston hotel stay we did: check in at the Staybridge midweek, when they serve dinner downstairs Tuesday to Thursday night. Combine that with their hot free breakfast each morning, and you've almost got an "all-inclusive" Houston resort in a great location in South Texas!

This Staybridge Suites hotel is fairly new, with four floors and 112 non-smoking rooms that come fully stocked with very clean kitchens. There's a good fitness center that's rarely busy, plus a very nice salt water pool, hot tub and outdoor putting green in the back. You can even do your laundry at the complimentary facility here. We loved it!

Magnolia Hotel

The Magnolia Hotel, Rated one of the Best Hotels in Houston for Couples

Magnolia Hotel- an historic building that used to be the headquarters for Shell Oil, but was purchased in 2001 and extensively renovated.  It’s a charming hotel right in downtown Houston and a fantastic setting for romance and fun.

The location is perfect for a bit of sight-seeing as it’s close to many restaurants and bars, the metro, and shopping areas.

There's a rooftop pool, JACUZZI® Tub and fitness center, and if you have time you may also like to peruse the library or practice your pool skills in the billiards room. Complimentary food choices are plenty here: beer and wine reception daily from 5:30 to 6:30, warm cookies at night, and daily breakfast buffet. 

Suites have full kitchens and dining areas, and all rooms include free high speed wireless internet. You may want to arrange for a rose-petal turn down service at night, or ask about the Romance Package which includes champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries delivered to your room.
