You might imagine Ontario as a land just full of forests and lakes. It is, but it also contains a terrific collection of interesting little towns and villages, miles of relaxing lakefronts, magnificent Niagara Falls, and of course, dynamic places like Ottawa and Toronto, Canada's largest city.
Maid of the Mist Getting Close to Niagara Falls, Still One of Ontario's Most Romantic Places
Since Ontario is so huge, and Niagara Falls is a getaway all on it's own, this section concentrates mostly on getaways in Southwestern Ontario.
The Best Time to Visit Ontario? Late spring (May) right thru to the fall foliage season in October. In winter, come prepared and dressed well, and you can experience Canada at it's frosty best.
Here's our choices for the most romantic spots in Ontario...
Niagara Falls
Romantic View from a Superior Fallsview Room at the Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa
Probably not much more to say about the Falls, still the no.1 honeymoon destination in North America. Except, where to stay?
- Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa - What Other Couples Liked: Best Hotel Room View of the Falls from the Canadian Side...Breakfast Buffet...25th Anniversary Room Upgrade and Champagne. 2020 ERV Rating* for Romantic Niagara Falls, ON Hotels: 84% - Very Good. Niagara-on-the-Lake
The Niagara Peninsula is more than just Niagara Falls. Niagara-on-the-Lake is home to wineries and wine tasting, and one look at the downtown and nearby waterfront quickly establishes it as one of the most romantic places in Ontario.
Take some time to soak up the lakefront and the abundance of antique shops, bakeries and cafes on Queen Street. You can cycle the Niagara Wine Route for a closer look at the vineyards, or join one of a number of guided tours from Toronto or Niagara Falls. The Niagara Ice Wine Festival (in January of 2017, exact dates to be announced) is a great excuse for a winter getaway to this area. Wine & cheese seminars, weekend shows, and an exciting winter fest in St. Catharines are the highlights.
- The Charles Hotel - located near the center of Niagara-on-the-Lake, but just far enough away for a superb relaxing stay. (85 Melville St, Niagara-on-the-Lake ON 800-474-0632)
- BranCliff Inn - NOTL's top-rated bed and breakfast enjoys a great location on a quiet street close to the town center. The building is soaked in history, but fully up-to-date with luxury bedding, fireplace, Kuerig coffee machines and LCD TV's. 2020 ERV Rating* for Romantic Niagara-on-the-Lake B&B's: 98% - Excellent. (40 Platoff St, Niagara-on-the-Lake ON 905-468-8800)
